The Anti-Instagram

In a world dominated by heavily edited, curated, and filtered social media feeds, BeReal emerged as a breath of fresh air. The app's design aims to encourage less-curated sharing among friends. There are no likes, no followers counts, and strictly no photo filters.

'Time to BeReal'

The app operates on a unique, synchronized global timer. Once a day, at a completely random time, all users simultaneously receive a notification: 'Time to BeReal'. You then have exactly two minutes to open the app and take a photo of whatever you are doing at that exact moment.

Dual Camera Feature

When you snap your photo, BeReal captures images from both your front and back cameras simultaneously. This shows your friends exactly what you are looking at, alongside your real-time reaction.

Late Posts and Discovery

If you miss the 2-minute window, you can still post late, but the app will publicly shame you by labeling your photo as 'X hours late'. Crucially, you cannot view your friends' BeReals for the day until you post your own, preventing passive 'lurking'. Core posting and friend features are currently available without a required subscription; connected offers and policies can still change.
