Monkey is a mobile-first random video-chat and social-discovery service that now states an 18+ eligibility rule. It allows users to connect with random strangers across the globe for quick video chats. It became one of the services considered by some former Omegle users after Omegle shut down in 2023.

15-Second Video Matches

The app's core mechanic revolves around speed. You are matched with a random stranger via live video, and a 15-second timer immediately starts counting down. If both of you want to keep talking, you can tap 'Time' to add more seconds. If not, the chat ends, and you swipe to the next stranger.

Trees and Bananas

Monkey tries to gamify the experience using 'Trees' (friend lists) and 'Bananas' (in-app currency). Users can buy Bananas to filter matches by specific genders or to send virtual gifts to people they like on video.

Severe Safety and Moderation Concerns

Despite originally being marketed to teens (and previously rated 12+), the app has faced intense backlash from parents and law enforcement. Because it connects users with completely unvetted strangers via live video, instances of explicit content, predators, and bullying are incredibly common. Apple has previously banned the app from the App Store multiple times due to these severe safety violations.
